Environment and Sustainability Committee
Inquiry into Energy Policy and Planning in Wales

EPP 62 – Gillian Foulkes

Dear Committee,

Whilst I agree with WAG's policy of working towards a 3% reduction in Greenhouse gas emissions per annum from 2011, I do not agree that industrialisation of our rural upland landscapes is the way to achieve this. In fact large tracts of our uplands already help to achieve this reduction by sequestering carbon. If WAG invested more in ecosystem services then carbon capture in our Sphagnum-rich uplands would be raised and we would also have the benefits of:

        flood alleviation;

       enhanced biodiversity;

        increased eco-tourism.

I trust that these comments will be given due consideration by the Committee.

Mrs Gillian Foulkes
